Hi, my name is Karsten. This is my website. I have one because everyone else does. There's really not a lot to see here. Most of the action happens elsewhere.

This site and its owner are in no way affiliated with or connected to the webhosting company NearlyFreeSpeech.net. If you're looking for their services, you can find their site here.

Things I do:

I put a good part of my time and energy into the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE). I started there as an intern in early 2005. Ever since, the topic of Free Software has fascinated me. So has working in the company of extremely smart and dedicated people. Which is why I'm proud to be part of FSFE.

If you think that Free Software is important and would like to support their work, you could join the Fellowship of FSFE, which is a gathering place for those who care about the issue. You could also donate to them. Button of Fellowship of FSFE

I run a private blog at fsfe.org, and I contribute to one at work. Both centre on Access to Knowledge; yet besides the fact that the private one is obviously more personal, it covers a wider range of topics. The work blog, on the other hand, is more serious and has several other contributors beside me.

Reading

I wrote my Master's thesis on "Access to Knowledge in a Network Society". If you're looking for a comprehensive introduction to the topic of Access to Knowledge (A2K), this may not be a bad place to start. If I were to re-edit it now, I'd do a few things differently, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. Read the abstract and download the .pdf file (600 kB). Or download the LaTeX source (420 kB, tar.gz) and take advantage of the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license by ripping, sampling, mashing and sharing it. And, by all means, improve upon it, print a million books, sell them for a hundred dollars each and be mighty happy for it.

My email is karsten at nearlyfreespeech dot org. You're welcome to write to me, but please refrain from sending me Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents. Better use the Open Document Format or convert them to text, PDF or HTML. Here's why

My GnuPG key is here, in case you'd like to send me something that you'd prefer only you and I read. The key ID is 646C 2E0C. The most comfortable way to use it is probably to get yourself a shell and type
